MPD investigates shooting

An unidentified man was recovering today from surgery at a Meridian hospital after being shot near downtown by an unnamed suspect.
The shooting happened Wednesday at about 2 p.m. at 28th Avenue and 16th Street.
Meridian Police Detective Dean Harper said the man was struck in the lower torso by a small caliber bullet fired from a handgun. Harper declined to release the victim's name and would not release any other information.
