Three Meridian students are participating in the Cooperative Education Program at Mississippi State University.
Matt Williams Elliott and Thomas Jay Taylor are working toward degrees in computer engineering. As co-op students, they alternate semesters in Atlanta with the BellSouth Corp.
William Shawn Stewart is working toward a degree in civil engineering. As a co-op student, he alternates semesters in Birmingham, Ala., with Brasfield and Gorrie.
The Cooperative Education Program is a five-year educational program that allows a student to affiliate with a business, industry or governmental firm while enrolled at Mississippi State.
Three Meridian area youths are among 250 high school seniors chosen as Coca-Cola scholarship finalists.
Mary Kathryn Covert of Meridian High School, Dave Christian Hicks of Lamar High School and Crystal Nicole Moore of West Lauderdale High School were chosen from more than 2,000 semifinalists.
They were chosen because of their academic excellence and school and community extracurricular activities.
On April 24, the three students will travel to the Coca-Cola Co. headquarters in Atlanta and compete for 50 four-year college scholarships of $20,000 and 200 four-year scholarships of $4,000.
James Brian Machamer of Meridian has been named to Louisiana Tech University's president's list for the winter quarter.
To achieve the president's list, a student must have at least a 3.8 grade point average on a minimum of nine semester hours. No grade can be lower than a B.
William Cantwell of Meridian has been named to Hinds Community College's dean list for the fall 2002 semester. To achieve the dean's list, a student must have a grade point average of 3.5 to 3.9 on a 4.0 scale.
The following students have been named to Hinds Community College's president's list for the fall 2002 semester. To achieve the president's list, a student must have a grade point average of 4.0.
The students are Jared Woodall of Bailey; Rodney Robinson of Quitman; and Claire Webster, Mark Chandler and Louis Hatcher, all of Meridian.
Adam Stephenson Mitchell of Meridian has been named to Louisiana State University's dean's list for the fall 2002 semester. To achieve the dean's list, a student must have a grade point average of 3.5 to 3.9.
The following Meridian students were named to the Millsaps College dean's list for the fall 2002 semester. To achieve the dean's list, a student must have a grade point average of 3.5 to 3.849.
The students are Stacey Douglas, Whitney Pool, John R. Smith, Julie Strickland, William Selman II, Jeremy Litton and John Keueven.
