Lauderdale County District 1 Supervisor Hank Florey, a Republican who represents residents in the northern part of the county including portions of North Meridian  announced today he will not seek re-election.
Florey, first elected in 1995 and re-elected in 1999, has a year remaining in his second term and assured voters that he will stay on the job through the end of the 2003. He said he hopes the position will attract some younger, well-qualified, well-educated candidates.
Qualifying paperwork for political party primaries must be filed by 5 p.m. on Feb. 28. The primaries are scheduled Aug. 5, with any necessary runoff on Aug. 26. This year's general election is Nov. 4.
