United Blood Services is teaming up with WTOK television station Monday for the sixth annual "M*A*S*H Bash" blood drive.
UBS workers will dress up as characters from "M*A*S*H," the award-winning television show about life in a mobile Army surgical hospital during the Korean War. They will be taking donations at the Temple Theatre ballroom from noon-7 p.m.
United Blood Services is a non-profit blood supplier that serves hospitals in East Mississippi and West Alabama.
Smith said donations have been low all year, but particularly this month during the holidays.
WTOK television is sponsoring the event for the sixth straight year, and will televise parts of the blood drive live on Channel 11.
Other local businesses helping out with this year's event include Domino's Pizza, Coca-Cola Bottling Co. and Aaron's Sales and Lease Ownership. Domino's will give away free pizza to donors, Coca-Cola will offer free drinks and Aaron's will set up big screen televisions to show famous M*A*S*H episodes.
DONATION CHECKLIST
Here is a list of requirements potential donors must meet before giving blood:
Be at least 17 years old.
Weigh at least 110 pounds.
No previous blood donation within 56 days.
Have proper identification.
United Blood Services can now accept blood from diabetics and people with high blood pressure who are on medication. Donors who are on high blood pressure medicine are, however, required to know the name of their medicine before donating.
