Excellence in Education

CLINTON Christie Lee Green of Meridian is among the 75 Mississippi College students selected for inclusion in the 2003 edition of "Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges," a publication reserved for outstanding campus leaders. She is the daughter of Willard and Marilyn Green of Meridian.
The Meridian Community College Foundation has awarded six $1,000 scholarships, funded by MCC alumnus Frank Charles Winstead of Magnolia, Texas.
Winstead is the founder of "Advocate for Excellence in America's Classrooms." Through storytelling anecdotes, visual aids and memorabilia, Winstead shares his belief that teachers have enormous power to make a difference in the lives of young people and that teaching is the most important job in the world. These scholarships were established in memory of, or in honor of, the teachers who made a difference in his life.
Rachel G. Griffin of Quitman has been selected for the Marguerite Jenkins English Scholarship. She is a sophomore majoring in education with plans to teach on the secondary level. A President's List scholar, Griffin is a member of Phi Theta Kappa, the scholastic society for two-year college students. She is director or children's music at Harmony Baptist Church.
Sara Jo Rucker of Meridian is the Jack Shank Scholarship recipient. A graduate of Southeast Lauderdale High School, she was the treasurer of the Beta Club, a member of Students Against Drunk Drivers and first lieutenant in the Southeast band. Rucker was listed in "Who's Who Among American High School Students." She is a member of the MCC Community Band.
Mark D. Primeaux of Meridian has been tapped for the Eli Pacetti Instrumental Music Scholarship. A home-school student, Primeaux is a freshman at MCC. He is a member of Phi Theta Kappa and is a President's List Scholar. Primeaux plans to major in music, and may choose teaching as a career. He plays classical guitar and piano.
Angie Nicole White of Meridian has received the Reva Breckenridge Science Scholarship. She is a graduate of Southeast Lauderdale High School. White is a Dean's List Scholar, a member of Phi Theta Kappa and Future Educators of America. Her goal is to teach in a rural school district.
Shawnlee M. Romano of Meridian has been named the Mary Ann Bonney Riley Scholar. She is a graduate of Northeast Lauderdale High School, where she was a member of flag corps, track team, swimming team, Junior ROTC, Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Fellowship of Christian Students. Her plans to continue her education and complete a master's degree in elementary education.
Daniel Richard Rigdon of Collinsville is the Maude Reid History Scholarship recipient. He is a graduate of West Lauderdale High School. Rigdon is a member of the MCC tennis team, chorus and Variations. He works at the Damon Fitness Center and is a member of the Worship Team at his church.
