RUSTON, La. Meridian native James Brian Machamer has been named to the President's List at Louisiana Tech University for the fall term.
MONTEVALLO, Ala. Joseph Mure of Meridian was among University of Montevallo students recognized for academic achievements on Elite Night.
Mure was named Senior Elite in the UM College of Fine Arts. He has the highest grade-point average of seniors majoring in communication studies. Mure was also chosen to Who's Who Among American Universities and Colleges.
Elite Night has been held since 1993 to honor Montevallo's best and brightest seniors.
Ginger M. Pittman of Collinsville is a 2002-2003 recipient of a Lee Anne Smith Memorial Scholarship for the fall and spring semesters at Meridian Community College. This $1,200 scholarship is funded through the MCC Foundation.
Pittman is a 2002 graduate of West Lauderdale High School where she was a member of the Junior Honor Society, the National Honor Society and Health Occupation Students of America. At MCC, she is taking prerequisite courses in preparation for the Associate Degree Nursing Program. Pittman is a volunteer for Hospice and the Diabetes Association.
Two associate degree nursing students have been selected to receive the 2002-2003 Miriam Roberson Scholarship for the fall and spring semesters at Meridian Community College. The are Misty Danielle Cozart of Meridian and Brandi Raines of Toomsuba. These $700 scholarships are funded through the MCC Foundation.
Cozart, 23, is a graduate of Meridian High School. She is a member of the Organization of Student Nurses. A licensed practical nurse, she is employed part-time at Jeff Anderson Regional Medical Center. She plans to become a registered nurse and earn a bachelor's degree in nursing.
Raines, 20, is a graduate of Southeast Lauderdale High School. She is a member of the Organization of Student Nurses and the Mississippi Student Nursing Association. Raines is a part-time student nurse at Jeff Anderson Regional Medical Center. She aspires to become a registered nurse and work at a local hospital.
