Turkey, day off on Thanksgiving menu

DECATUR Bubby Johnston said he intends to be eating plenty of turkey on Thanksgiving Day.
Johnston, who is from Forest, is vice president of public relations at East Central Community College in Decatur. He and other ECCC officials will be off today, Thanksgiving Day and throughout the weekend.
Most other officials said they and their workers will be off Thursday and Friday but there appear to be a few exceptions in the area.
Diane Wright, Clarke County's administrator and comptroller, said the county's garbage will be picked up on Thanksgiving Day and on Friday. Wright said the weekday service has been the routine since the early 1980s. She said the thinking is any day the crews miss puts them behind in their work.
She said the crews will be paid overtime for their work.
In Waynesboro, there will be garbage pickup late in the week, said Jan Bishop, clerk of the city's Water Department.
Hazel Johnson, Kemper County administrator, also said crews in her county will not pick up garbage on Thanksgiving Day but will on Friday.
Meanwhile, many officials said they were leaving Thanksgiving activities and festivities to the businesses and churches.
