Robert Herrington, 44, of the House community was also making cane syrup on Saturday. He was hoping to make about 100 quarts and plans to make more next weekend.
His mother, Karen Chappell of Texas, said syrup making is becoming a lost art.
Herrington said he remembers a time when several people in the area made syrup, but it isn't done much anymore.
Herrington's Syrup Mill will be in operation again next Saturday from about 9 a.m.-2 p.m. and the public is invited to drop by.
Herrington's Syrup Mill is about 30 miles from Meridian in Neshoba County:
Turn left on Highway 492.
Turn right on County Road 511.
Travel about 1 mile and you will find the mill behind a barn at the last house on your left.
