HANGING RIBBONS

Danny Tamayo hangs yellow ribbons Friday on the new Memory Tree at Bonita Lakes; the tree eventually will be covered with about 40,000 ribbons. The tree replaces the old Memory Tree at the Doughboy Monument in downtown Meridian, which was cut down after being damaged by a storm this summer. The Memory Tree Foundation was established by Lou Pennebaker in 1998; the yellow ribbons honor those who have served or now serve in the United States armed forces.
