SCOOBA The football season comes to an end for the East Mississippi Community College Lions today.
The Lions will take a 3-5 record into its final game against visiting Hinds Community College at Sullivan-Windham Field. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
Coach Tom Goode's team was able to snap a four-game losing streak by beating Coahoma 28-26 last week in Clarksdale.
The Lions were led at Coahoma by running back Galen Hendricks out of Columbus. Hendricks rushed for 135 yards and four touchdowns on runs of 41, 1, 10 and 1 yards.
Quarterback DeAngelo Dantzler out of Starkville made his first start in replacement of Daniel Spinks. Dantzler ran for 86 yards and was 9-of-14 passing for 37 yards.
Hinds is packing it in after Saturday's game as well. The Eagles' playoff hopes ended with a 17-14 loss to Jones last week that dropped their overall record to 4-4.
Hinds got off to a 3-0 start but then lost division games against Gulf Coast (14-7) and Pearl River. Gulf Coast was one of the three teams EMCC has beaten this season.
The Lions defense is led by linebacker Ken Hollis who ranks second in the state in tackles with over 80 stops. Defensive end Eddie Moss of Meridian leads the team in sacks with six.
