Meridian's latest residents, the 37 carousel horses in the "Around Town Carousels Abound" art project, are the stars of a new coffee table-style book.
The book will feature photos of all 37 horses, a statement from the artist of each horse and the location of the horse.
Photos were taken by Meridian photographer Wayne Rawson. The creative direction was by Stacey Griffith of Jackson, the artist of Gypsy, the horse at Reflections of the Modern Garden.
The full-color book also features comments by Cater and Martin, co-founders of the "Around Town Carousels Abound" art project. Lauderdale County native and Emmy Award-winning actress Sela Ward wrote the foreword for the book.
Inspired by similar public art exhibitions of animals in cities across the country, Meridian is the first city in Mississippi to join the national phenomenon. The art project was inspired by Highland Park's Dentzel Carousel. A brief history of the historic Dentzel Carousel is also in the book.
Just like the carousel art project, all proceeds from the book will benefit Hope Village for Children.
To date, more than $65,000 has been raised through the carousel art project for Hope Village, which houses children in crisis.
