The Meridian Star asked Meridian and Lauderdale County residents what questions they would pose to the two congressional candidates if they had the chance. Here are some responses:
Milton McDonald Sr., 45, of Lauderdale, manages M &M Car Wash on 4700 Eighth St.
McDonald's questions: What are you going to do to represent me as a businessman? What can you do to help make loans more available to small businesses?
Sue Mitchell, 55, of Collinsville, owns and operates The Final Touch Beauty School in the College Park shopping center on Highway 19 North.
Mitchell's questions: I would like to ask candidate Shows if he ever received any campaign funds that were illegal? To candidate Pickering, you have five beautiful children and a lovely wife. How are you able to juggle family with political life?
The Rev. Franklin Denham, 51, of Meridian, minister of music at Highland Baptist Church.
Denham's question: What role does your faith play in the decisions you make while in session?
C.W. Garrett, 51, of Meridian, owner of Garrett's, a sporting goods store at 3505 Eighth St.
Garrett's question: Why is it one person can have prayer removed from the schools and public facilities single-handedly and basically tie the whole judicial system up when our country was founded on moral, Christian values?
Harry Burns, 50, of Meridian, a house painter. He said his daughter, Danielle, is studying pre-law at the University of Southern Mississippi.
Burns' questions: Does she have a future in Meridian or does she have to come here to retire? Is this is a retirement community or a progressive community?
