Wildcats show off teams

October 27, 2002
A couple hundred Meridian High School basketball fans turned out on a wet Saturday night to see what kind of teams the 2002-2003 season would provide.
Both the Lady Wildcats and Wildcats had Blue-White scrimmages. The event was used as a fundraiser, a way to introduce the players to the fans, and most importantly as the coaches to get their players used to game-type situations as the seasons nears.
The Blue team, which was made up mostly of the starters, won the game 30-8.
The Lady Wildcats are set to open play on Saturday in the Choctaw Central Classic when they play West Lauderdale at 7 p.m.
Shirley said he is looking to play a lot of players this year, including several young ones.
The boys game was wide-open, with the Blue team beating the White squad 41-36.
Boys head coach Ernie Watson said this year's team would be much like last season's.
It's two-and-a-half weeks before Watson's squad takes the floor for real, something he is pleased about.
The first regular season game is set for Tuesday, Nov. 12 when the Wildcats and Lady Wildcats travel to Macon to take on Noxubee County High School.
The first home games are Nov. 16 against Quitman.
