Work continues on welcome center

Work is more than halfway complete on the Mississippi Welcome Center along Interstate 20/59 near Meridian.
Triplett said crews have installed a new roof and are almost finished building two large restrooms on the back end of the expanded building.
He said crews will convert the original restrooms into extra space for welcome center personnel and will renovate the remainder of the original building.
The state also plans to hire a company to renovate and landscape the welcome center's car and truck parking lots.
Plans call for advertising that project in October 2003 and awarding a bid a month later, said David Foster, an engineer also with MDOT's Newton office.
Foster said he estimates completion will be sometime in 2005. The welcome center was opened in 1975 near the Toomsuba exit.
