UNION – For Union, Saturday's 13-3, 12-6 doubleheader sweep of Enterprise was about trying to accomplish something every inning. For Enterprise, it was a case of not taking advantage of opportunities.
Union, 14-5, scored at least one run in 10 of the 11 innings in which the Lady Jackets batted.
The win was the sixth in a row for Union after losing to New Hope.
Enterprise, 7-8, had seven hits in the opener and 14 in the second game. What hurt the Lady Bulldogs was leaving 24 baserunners stranded in the 12 innings in which they batted.
In the opener, Enterprise scored twice in the top of the first only to have Union take the lead for good with three runs in the bottom of the inning on a three-run homer by Marley Smith.
A six-run fourth frame broke the game open, giving the Lady Jackets an 11-3 lead. Smith had a two-run single in the inning with winning pitcher Chasity Yates (6-2) adding an RBI-double.
RBI-singles by Morgan Breland and Yates in the bottom of the fifth ended the game on the run rule.
Madison Brantley went 3-for-3 with three singles for Union. Smith, Yates, and Morgan Milling had two hits each as the Lady Jackets outhit Enterprise 13-7.
Enterprise, which committed seven errors, was led by Shannon Creel, who went 2-for-3 with a double.
In the second game, Enterprise scored four runs in the top of the second to take a 4-1 lead. Creel and Brittnay Speed had RBI-singles.
Union got two runs back in the bottom of the second and took the lead for good in the third on a two-run homer by Tiffany Thomas that skipped off the top of the fence in left center.
A sacrifice fly by Milling and an RBI-single by Smith put Union up 7-4 in the fourth.
Tiffany Taylor's single plated a run for the Lady Bulldogs in the fifth, but the rally ended with the bases loaded.
Union made it 10-5 in the fifth on RBI-singles by Loren Kennedy and Lindsay Walker and a sacrifice fly by Yates.
Beth Crotwell had an RBI-single in the sixth with LaSaundra Harrison's fielder's choice giving Union a 12-5 advantage.
A bases loaded walk to Creel plated Enterprise's final run in the seventh, but the Lady Bulldogs ended the game with the bases loaded.
Smith went 4-for-4 for Union. Kennedy had three hits with Milling, Thomas, Harrison, Brantley, Breland, and Walker having two apiece. Brantley (8-3) got the win.
Kaccy Jimmerson and Jessica Finnegan had three hits for Enterprise with Speed and Taylor having two each. Ashton Shirley took the loss in both games.
Union hosts Edinburg on Monday with Enterprise going to Newton on Tuesday in league games.
