ENTERPRISE The Enterprise Bulldogs scored the biggest win in recent memory by knocking off Division 7-2A foe Bay Springs by the tune of 21-0 in the friendly confines of L.J. Davis Field.
Enterprise opened the game on offense and drove the ball for most of the first quarter to take an early lead over the visiting Bulldogs. Enterprise put together a 10-play 85-yard drive that was concluded on a 35-yard run by Kelly Jimmerson to give Enterprise the early lead. Michael Swancey added the extra point to put Enterprise on top 7-0 with 6:01 left in the first period.
After a superb special teams play by Bay Springs the offense went to work at midfield. The Enterprise defense held Bay Springs to only one yard and forced a quick three down possession to force the guests to punt. Thanks to a low snap from center, Zeb Swain was able to block the punt for Enterprise and John Arrington recovered the ball around the 32-yard line with 4:13 remaining in the first quarter and set up yet another EHS score.
Enterprise only needed four plays from scrimmage as Swain collected his first score of the evening on an 18-yard plunge to bring the score to 14-0 with 2:12 remaining in the first quarter of action. Bay Springs opened their next possession on a very low note, as the visiting Bulldogs were pushed back on an attempted option play that resulted in a fumble that was a loss of 15 yards.
Bay Springs came right back with a quick 20-yard pass from Lesteven McCullum to Ronnie McCullum to bring Bay Springs back to life. Channing Taylor followed with a terrific 47-yard run to put Bay Springs deep into Enterprise territory with time running out in the first period. The drive stalled as Swain came up with a huge fumble recovery for Enterprise to end the first quarter and put the home Bulldogs back on offense.
After an exchange of possessions Enterprise added their third and final score of the evening on a 40-yard scamper by Jimmerson to give Enterprise a 21-0 edge with 5:52 remaining in the second quarter. After a quiet third quarter, Bay Springs had one last opportunity to avoid a shutout. Swancey pinned Bay Springs deep on a great punt and the Enterprise defense took care of the rest. Kyle Farris came up with a huge sack on defense followed by a tackle for a loss by Arrington to force Bay Springs to punt.
Enterprise ran the clock out and celebrated the 21-0 win over the Bay Springs Bulldogs. Enterprise had 270 yards of total offense paced by 105 yards rushing by Jimmerson. Swain also had 43 yards on five carries for Enterprise. Swain also led the defense as well with six tackles and Colter Cannington came in with five tackles on the night.
Enterprise improves to 5-1 on the season and Bay Springs fell to 3-3.
