Representatives of nonprofit organizations, government entities and schools can attend a two-day workshop next week on grant-writing fundamentals conducted by Dr. Barbara Jones.
The workshop will be Wednesday and Thursday at the offices of The Riley Foundation, which is underwriting part of the expense of the session and reducing the cost of the course.
The fee for the workshop is $50 each for Lauderdale County residents and $119 for others. Normally the fee is $200. The workshop is co-sponsored by the Mississippi Center for Nonprofits.
Becky Lewis, a representative of the Riley Foundation, said Jones, who is active in a wide range of nonprofit organizations, has successfully written about $32 million in grants.
Lewis said participants in Jones' workshops also have secured millions for Mississippi organizations.
Louis Sutton, president and chief professional officer of United Way of East Mississippi, said he urges representatives of agencies United Way supports to take advantage of the workshop.
Each participant in the grant-writing workshop will receive comprehensive course materials prepared by Jones.
The first day of the course will focus on researching and finding grants for specific organizations by working online and using The Riley Foundation library.
On the second day, Jones will teach participants the dos and don'ts of grant writing.
