The ladies take the spotlight this weekend when the 41st Annual 600 Bowling Club of Mississippi holds its statewide tournament at Dixie Bowl here in Meridian. More than 120 ladies from across the state will compete in the two-day event beginning Saturday at 9 p.m. Local bowlers taking part should check their verification forms for their shift times. All bowlers will bowl four games Saturday and four games Sunday. 600 Club members must be prepared to show their National 600 Club card at check-in. 500 guests will need to present their WIBC cards, so be sure to have these with you when you arrive. Good luck to all of our local bowlers!
This past weekend saw some of the south's top senior bowlers take part in the local tour stop of the Senior All-Star Bowling Association. The action was intense as these bowlers from across the south converged on Meridian. I hope you had the good fortune to witness some excellent bowling.
Don't forget the annual City Mixed Tournament will be held October 5-6 and 12-13. Teams will consist of four members with any combination of men and women. The Doubles event must include a man and a woman. Champions in each division will receive not only cash awards, but also an entry into the state event, which will also be held in Meridian the first three weekends in November. Entry forms are now available for both tournaments, so get yours filled out and turned in soon to insure the dates and times you want. Late entries will only be accepted on a "lanes available" basis.
Entry forms are also now available for the annual Magic Agers Tournament to be held at Paradise Lanes in Jackson Oct. 19-20. This tournament is for ladies 55 and older.
Eight local bowlers were able to crack the 700 barrier in last week's action, with four of those occurring in the Wednesday Night Mixed league. Andrew Clayton led all bowlers with a 755 while Mike Cothern held down the high game with a 286 while recording a 722 series. Other bowlers making the board included Jim Broderick, Jr., Ken Miller, Ronnie Thomas, Robby Relinski and M.A. Copeland.
Plenty of ladies strutted their stuff last week. Debbie Jones recorded the high series with a 226, 229/614 effort in the Ball &Chain league. Shelia Dearman carded a 605 and Pat James checked in with a 602. The high game belonged to Teresa Nance who blistered the boards for a nice 253 game in the Dixie Belles league. In doing so, Teresa also collected the coveted Century Award by bowling 109 pins over her average. Congratulations, Teresa on a job well done. Other ladies scoring big included Janie Tisdale (245), Nita Fike (231), Angie Thomas (226), and Mary Copeland (220).
Keep up the good work, bowlers. Until next week. . . Good luck and good bowling.
