Prisoner back in jail after brief escape

By By Steve Gillespie / staff writer
Sept. 16, 2002
DEKALB Eric McDonald is behind bars again after walking out of the Kemper-Neshoba County/Regional Correctional Facility Sunday.
Kemper County Sheriff Sam Tisdale said McDonald, 23, charged with the March armed robbery of a Texaco gas station in Scooba, got a change of clothes from somewhere and walked out of the jail late Sunday afternoon.
Tisdale said where he got the street clothes he apparently had on under his prison uniform is under investigation. Sheriff's deputies are holding a woman for questioning; she may face charges of aiding and abetting.
Tisdale said McDonald called authorities about 5 a.m. today to turn himself in. He was picked up at his mother's house in Kemper County.
The sheriff's department, with help from the DeKalb and Scooba police departments, conducted a man hunt for McDonald after he came up missing.
McDonald now faces charges of felony escape, which could add up to five years to his current sentence.
