Johnson: Elections will run smooth

Lauderdale County Circuit Clerk Donna Jill Johnson said she expects this fall's elections to go smoothly.
Voters go to the polls Nov. 5 to choose a congressman, a new District 4 county supervisor and a new District 5 school board member.
This year's biggest contest is for congress, pitting Republican U.S. Rep. Chip Pickering against Democratic U.S. Rep. Ronnie Shows. Both hope to represent the redrawn 3rd District in the U.S. House.
Pickering, who represents the 3rd District, and Shows, who represents the 4th District, were forced to run against each other when Mississippi lost one of its five U.S. House seats.
Johnson's responsibilities include overseeing elections in the county. Johnson, 57, and a Republican, said she plans to seek another term in next year's county elections because she enjoys serving the public.
And all of our nine deputies feel the same way that we want the people to feel like they've been helped and they're pointed in the right direction," she said.
