Property values go up

Mayor John Robert Smith told city council members Tuesday that assessed property value in the city is up, but not as much as city leaders originally hoped.
He said the property values appear to have increased about 7.5 percent not the 20 percent to 40 percent city officials originally thought.
City leaders are expected to set the tax rate after the City Council approves the budget next week for the fiscal year that starts Oct. 1
