TUSCALOOSA, Ala. Meridian Community College's first step into the work of women's junior college soccer was a big one.
The Lady Eagles won their first-ever match on Wednesday with a 1-0 triumph over Shelton State Community College. MCC plays host to Region 23 power Hinds Community College at 4 p.m. on Friday. The two schools' men's teams face off at 6 p.m.
Candis Beard gathered in a through ball off the foot of Rachel Wilson and knocked into the back of the net to give MCC the only score it needed.
Charlsie Bufkin had seven saves to post the shutout in goal for the Lady Eagles, who are now 1-0 on the season and host Hinds on Friday.
