Hitt puts himself in the hot seat

Lauderdale County Supervisor Craig Hitt faced his constituents Tuesday night and tried to explain why some county roads haven't been paved, striped or repaired.
Hitt met with a group of 28 county residents at a town meeting in the Collinsville Community Club. He told residents the county is doing the best it can to improve roads.
Hitt said the county is looking into buying $1.8 million worth of road equipment during the next fiscal year that starts Oct. 1. He said striping one mile of a road costs $10,000.
Hitt, who represents District 3 and is president of the Lauderdale County Board Supervisors, said town meetings are the best way to meet constituents one-on-one.
Residents said they appreciate Hitt's efforts as supervisor and are grateful for the time with their elected official.
Jack Killen, another District 3 resident, said, "I think it's great that he does this because it gives one-on-one contact with the supervisor. However, I've known him all my life and just call him personally."
