A Lauderdale County grand jury has issued a capital murder indictment against 41-year-old Jerome Alan Earl.
Earl lives at 8144 Barnhill Road. He was taken into custody about 4:30 p.m. Friday after he failed to show up at his scheduled arraignment and a Circuit Court judge issued a bench warrant for his arrest.
Meridian police charged Earl with capital murder on Feb. 2 of this year after the shooting death of 21-year-old Denardo Saffold.
The shooting occurred three days earlier, on Jan. 30.
Detective Deano Harper said Saffold was found on the ground outside his vehicle at 35th Avenue and 23rd Street. He had been shot in the head and later died at a local hospital. Earl was taken into custody without incident several hours later at his home.
The grand jury also indicted Earl for possession of cocaine. He was being held without bond Friday at the Lauderdale County Detention Facility.
