Meredith Brooks picked up several pointers from outdoors experts Friday and took in all the sites and sounds of the The Meridian Star's 2002 Outdoor Expo at the Frank Cochran Center.
Brooks' husband, Joey, is an avid outdoorsman, and she said she came to the expo to be introduced to "his world."
The Brooks family was among hundreds of people who turned out for opening day of the three-day expo that is wall-to-wall with vendors from around the South and touts seminars on a variety of outdoors subjects.
One of the vendors Woods and Water from Alabama had a display that covered nearly all of the back wall at
the Frank Cochran Center featuring their outdoors equipment.
Jeremy Hopkins, a Woods and Water sales representative, said he and two other employees made the trip from Tuscaloosa on Thursday to get ready for the doors to open on Friday.
One of Friday night's big attention-grabbers was the 50-foot-long tub stocked with live crappie, perch, turtles, white bass and catfish courtesy of the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks.
A few of the fish and one turtle caught the eye of seven-year-old Carly Brooks.
Carly's dad, Joey, said he enjoyed sharing his love for the outdoors with his family at the expo.
