Lauderdale County deputy Michael Gibson spent two weeks in Huntsville, Ala., recently to train to become a DARE officer.
When he graduated from the Drug Abuse Resistance Education training program last Friday, he received a team role model award.
Gibson, 26, was one of 30 officers from around the South training to become a DARE officer. He has been a deputy for the Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department for three years.
Calhoun said Gibson has been selected to become the county's second DARE officer and go to local campuses to teach students drug awareness. Gibson begins his new job Monday.
