East Mississippi alive in Minors

PHILADELPHIA East Mississippi lived to play at least one more day with an 11-5 losers' bracket victory over Philadelphia National in the Dixie Youth District 4 Minor League Tournament (9-10 year olds) at Northside Park Thursday night.
The winners' bracket contest between Westside National and Philadelphia American was not completed by press deadline.
Play resumes today at 6 p.m. with West Lauderdale meeting the Westside-Philadelphia American loser at 6 p.m. The Westside-Philadelphia American winner will take on East Mississippi at 7:30 p.m.
The Dixie Youth District 4 Major League Tournament (11-12 year olds) also got under way with Philadelphia National ripping East Mississippi 19-2 and West Lauderdale knocking off Westside 10-4.
The Major League Tournament also resumes today with Westside and East Mississippi meeting in a 6 p.m. elimination game and Philadelphia National and West Lauderdale tangling in the winners' bracket contest at 7:30 p.m.

East Mississippi trailed 5-3 before taking the lead for good with three runs in the top of the fifth inning. East then added five insurance runs in the top of the sixth to oust Philadelphia National.
Cory Bass and Kasey Hinton both had two-run singles in the sixth inning outburst.
Hinton then came on to pitch the bottom of the sixth, retiring Philadelphia National in order.
Bass, Hinton, and Tyler Lott each had two singles out of East's 11 hits. Dillon Boatner, Jonathan McMillan, Baly Hobson, Kyle Koch, and Maxwell Harmon added one single apiece.
Philadelphia National had four hits. Joel Sistrunk had a pair of singles, Anthony Williams had a double, and Jake Moody had a single.

East Mississippi 2
Philadelphia National scored five times in the first, second, and third innings in taking the four-inning run-rule win. The winners had 16 hits and held East Mississippi to only one.
Winning pitcher Donnie Tabb had three singles for Philadelphia National. Colton Wilson and Zerrick Houston both had a pair of doubles. Carlos Stevens had a single and a double, while Kyle Chandler had two singles. Bass Price, Zack Williamson, Wauseka York, Michael Tullos, and Nigel Gibson had one single apiece. Wilson and Tullos both had three RBIs, while Tabb, York, and Houston had two apiece.
The lone hit for East Mississippi was a single by losing pitcher Michael McKenzie in the first inning.
Tabb tossed two frames, allowing one hit and three walks to go with two strikeouts. Wilson did not allow a hit in 1.1 innings. He walked four and struck out one. Chandler tossed the final two outs, allowing no hits and one walk with one strikeout.
In taking the loss, McKenzie allowed 10 runs, only four of which were earned as East Mississippi committed five errors.
West Lauderdale 10
Westside 4
West Lauderdale had 11 hits in beating Westside. West scored four runs in the top of the second inning and added three more in the fifth.
Winning pitcher Kameron Heiser had a single and a double for West as did Tyler Richardson. Garrett Wright and Zack Jay both had a double, while Hawk Seal, Trey Fox, Edwin Laws, Rusty McAlister, and Eathan Womack had one single each.
Heiser tossed the first two innings, striking out six, while allowing one run (unearned) on two hits and three walks. Richardson pitched the third and fourth frames, allowing no runs and no hits. He struck out three and walked one. Stephen Hudson threw the last two innings, allowing three runs on three hits and a walk while striking out two. Westside starter Tevin Houston took the loss. He allowed nine runs on 11 hits and four walks.
