Fall revivals kick off at area churches

LAUREL Nationally recognized soloist and minister Judy Jacobs will make a guest appearance at Christ Church at 7 p.m. on Aug. 17.
A chartered bus will leave Meridian at 4:30 p.m. on the day of the appearance. Cost for a round-trip ticket is $20; the deadline is Tuesday. Admission to the program is free.

Precept Bible Study Classes with Kay Arthur Ministries begin at 9 a.m. at Poplar Springs Drive Baptist Church.
The sessions will continue through Nov. 20, ending with the last part of Revelation. After the Thanksgiving break, the sessions will start again Dec. 4 with I Corinthians and continue to Dec. 11. After the Christmas break, sessions will begin again Jan. 8.

QUITMAN The Quitman Certificate Center, an adjunct of the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, will offer courses in church leadership this fall: Introduction to Preaching and Old Testament Bible Course Book of Joshua.
Classes will meet Tuesday nights, beginning Aug. 20 at 6:30 p.m. in the Clarke County Baptist Center in Quitman. Credit earned can be applied toward an associate's or bachelor's degree granted by the seminary. The program is open to pastors and laymen of all denominations.

A citywide prayer gathering for the ministry at the Lauderdale County Detention Facility is scheduled for 7 p.m. Aug. 29 at Poplar Springs Drive United Methodist Church.
The event is sponsored by the Good News Jail and Prison Ministries. Prayer gatherings will be each month at different locations. For more information, contact Chaplain Dennis Marks at 485-7708.

QUITMAN The Educational Progressive District Women's Convention will meet at Elizabeth Baptist Church.
The session, which will begin at 9 a.m., will focus on evangelism and how to be an effective witness to draw others to Christ. All women attending are asked to wear white.

PORTERVILLE The Liberty Quartet will be in concert at 7 p.m. at Porterville United Methodist Church. The concert is free to the public.
Church directions: Take Highway 45 north, 15 miles past Lauderdale. Turn right at Porterville sign, continue 1 mile, cross railroad track, turn left. The church is on the right.
SUNDAY
The Mass Choir of St. John Missionary Baptist Church will conduct music services at 10:30 a.m. The special service is part of the music ministry's celebration of Music Month during August.
A special program is scheduled at 3 p.m. The Rev. A.D. Lewis will be a special guest.
The Mass Choir will also conduct morning services Aug. 18 at 10:30 a.m. and the Youth Choir will conduct service on Aug. 25.

CLARKE COUNTY The congregation of Center Ridge Baptist Church in the Carmichael Community will observe the church's 150th anniversary with a special service.
The service will begin at 10:30 a.m. and former pastors will make a five-minute talk. The Rev. Grady Crowell of County Missionary will give the morning message. Lunch will be served in the church's fellowship hall at noon. Former pastors and members, as well as visitors, are encouraged to attend.
