NAS Meridian holds winging' ceremony

There will be a Naval aviator designation ceremony today, at 3:30 p.m., in the chapel at Naval Air Station Meridian.
The Naval aviator designation ceremony is not required by regulations, but has emerged as a U.S. Navy tradition. It marks the culmination of nearly two years of specialized training, which has prepared these officers for the aerial combat and carrier operations earning each the title of "Naval aviator" and the right to wear the coveted "Wings of Gold."
The guest speaker will be Capt. Mark Needler, commander of Training Air Wing 1.
Thirteen U.S. Navy and Marine Corps pilots will receives wings of gold.
The class carrier-qualified June 28-29, and July 25, on board the USS Harry Truman (CVN-75) and earned Navy "E for Excellence" designations for bombing accuracy during Advanced Strike Training. Pilots flew the T-45C "Goshawk" unless otherwise indicated.
1st Lt. Mark Amspacher, USMCR, who earned four Navy "E" designations;
1st Lt. Warren Bruce, USMCR, who earned one Navy "E" designation;
1st Lt. Jason Egan, USMCR, who earned three Navy "E" designations;
Lt. j.g. James Guimond, USNR, who earned three Navy "E" designations;
Lt. j.g. Stephen Hines, USNR, who earned two Navy "E" designations;
Ensign Kendra Kaufman, USNR, who carrier qualified in the T-2C "Buckeye" and earned VT-9's "Top Hook" honors for her superior performance during Carrier Qualification;
1st Lt. Douglas Miller, USMCR, who earned two Navy "E" designations;
Lt. j.g. Noel Norton, USNR, who earned five Navy "E" designations;
1st Lt. John Price, USMCR, who he earned one Navy "E" designation. Price graduated from the Infantry Officers Course in 2000. During Intermediate Flight Training, he was selected as VT-9's Student of the Month for August 2001;
Lt. j.g. Tara Refo, USNR, who carrier qualified in the T-2C "Buckeye";
1st Lt. Steven Schreiber, USMCR, earned two Navy "E" designations and was named to the commodore's list during Primary Flight Training;
1st Lt. Guy Snodgrass, USNR, who earned four Navy "E" designations and was named to the commodore's list during Advanced Strike Training; and
1st Lt. Allen Szezepek Jr., USMCR, who earned two Navy "E" designations.
