JPRD East makes its mark

Jefferson Parrish may have been eliminated from the 14-year-old Southwest Regional on Sunday, but the play of the tournament still stands in the Louisiana team's favor. In their game against El Dorado (Ark.) on Friday afternoon Ryan Duboc turned a triple play for the JPRD squad and had many fans blinking twice. According to some Babe Ruth officials a triple play of that magnitude is very rare and it stands as the great defensive play of the event.
What a shot
Cordera Eason was not a member of the Meridian team last year when the 13-year-old squad went to the World Series. Eason had the hit of the tournament by hitting a 365-foot home run over the left field wall. According to some of the fans on the hill in left field the ball went further, but measurements are not an exact science at Scaggs Field.
Ties to a former MCCer
Many Jefferson players mentioned the name Martin LaRocca when they arrived to Meridian. LaRocca played at Meridian Community College in 2000 and 2001 and later signed to play at the University of Alabama. LaRocca had surgery performed on his arm and is expected to return. There seem to be ties to MCC wherever you go.
Game winning hits
In Sunday's action in the final two games of the day two hits made the difference for two teams. In the El Dorado game Tyler Anglin had a game-winning single and in the nightcap James Truxillo had a three-run double to pace JPRD to a big win over North Randall. The double for Truxillo was his first of the tournament after going 0-for-9 in the rest of his games.
After their 7-3 win over Tri-County Meridian will make the long trip to Cliffton Park, N.Y. to compete in the World Series. The very same team, with some new faces, return after a trip to the World Series as 13-year-olds.
What's the score?
On Saturday a very severe thunderstorm came through Meridian and created havoc on the playing surface at Scaggs Field.
Due to good decision making the field was in great condition, but the scoreboard was knocked out of service because of lightning and had many people askin what's the score?'
