As part of the deal, Young's base pay this season actually dropped, giving the 49ers an additional $1.5 million in salary cap room.
For the Brakemen to survive in Meridian, the conventional wisdon is that it will take a big investment from the local business community. That possibility is looking more and more like a reality, Brakemen chairman Layton "Mac" McLeod said Wednesday. McLeod said he and other Brakemen board members have had two meetings in the past week to discuss a plan for 20 investors to supply $20,000 each into an escrow account. While the plan is still in its early stages, McLeon said he has personally confirmed five businesses that are willing to put up money, but that no money has changed hands yet or will until a final decision is reached.
