Shelton, Whiddon

Angela Marie Whiddon and Wesley Michael Shelton were united in marriage at Annunciation Catholic Church in Columbus on Saturday, June 1, 2002. Father Gerry Hurley officiated the double-ring ceremony.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mr. Donald Mark Whiddon of Meridian. She is the granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. James McKay Jr. of Canton, and Christine Whiddon of Ridgeland and the late James D. Whiddon.
The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Don Shelton of Columbus. He is the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. H.G. Earwood Jr. of Corinth, and Mr. and Mrs. Charles A. Shelton of Columbus. He is the great-grandson of Mamie Dorroh of Columbus.
Nuptial music was provided by Slater Murphy of Columbus, organist; and Nell Earwood and Angela Earwood of Georgetown, Ky., vocalist.
Escorted by her father, the bride wore a white gown of royal satin featuring a strapless bodice adorned with seed pearls and bugle beads. The fitted top featured a lasque waistline. The full skirt was complemented by a cathedral-length train.
She wore a matching headpiece of satin and pearls featuring an elbow-length cage veil of illusion. The bride carried a bouquet of Casbal Casablanca lilies hand-tied with French ribbon.
Attending the bride as maid of honor was her sister, Melissa Whiddon of Meridian. Bridesmaids were Emily Bates of Columbus, Cecily Hill, Ginny Isbell and Dana Sollie, all of Meridian, Kristin Johnson of North Little Rock, Ark., Fran Varner of Canton and Amanda Westmoreland of Tupelo.
Doug Shelton of Columbus served his brother as best man. Groomsmen were Stan Bates and Randy Porter of Columbus, Reid Carpenter, Josh Westmoreland of Tupelo, David Doleac of Jackson, Gary Rodgers of Boliver, Tenn., and Chad Ross of Brownsville, Tenn. Ushers were Todd Earwood and Scott Earwood of Louisville, Ky.
Lector was Dr. Greg C. Earwood of Georgetown and program attendants were Jennifer McKay and Lindsey McKay of Canton.
Following the ceremony, the bride's parents hosted a reception at the Columbus Country Club.
On the eve of the wedding the bridegroom's parents entertained family and friends at a rehearsal dinner also at the country club. A bridesmaid luncheon was held at The Back Door in Columbus and hosted by Jean Colson, Barbara Varner and Dr. Diane Johnson.
After a wedding trip to Napa Valley, Calif., the couple resides in Starkville.
