GOODMAN As in most years the South and North girls' squads in the 37th annual Coca-Cola All-Star Girls Basketball Game appeared to be evenly matched. So, when the South squad got out of the gates with a 12-2 lead… "We said What's going on here,'" North coach Scott Tallant of Columbus said. But Tallant and the North squad didn't panic. And it paid off, as his team rallied for a 64-57 win to grab a 19-18 lead in the all-time series.
PHILADELPHIA One triathlete simply outran the field while another barely dodged a lightning bolt to capture the 22nd annual Heart O'Dixie Triathlon Saturday morning. Joseph Curro of Clinton finished the 35-mile three-sport race from Lake Tiak O'Khata at Louisville to the Neshoba County Fairgrounds with a time of 1:51:33 for the best showing since Chris Eschbach's winning time of 1:51:05 in 1998. The victory on an overcast morning made Curro a four-time champion here with his other wins coming in 1994, 1995 and 1999.

LA CROSSE, Wis. The New Orleans Saints' No. 1 draft pick, offensive lineman Chris Naeole, will miss at least four weeks after injuring his left knee at practice on Monday. That means his knee cap came out, went to the left and stretched the MCL.

Every town has its own "Dream Team', but a group of 11 and 12-year-olds from Meridian are on the way to legendary status. Why all the accolades? Try three no-hitters and 15 home runs in the last four games. Three pitchers combined for a no-hitter Tuesday as the Meridian National team drubbed Frontier National 16-0 in the Dixie Youth District Tournament being played at Phil Hardin Park.

Tyi Edmonds
Tyi Edmonds likes playing the outfield, so much so he could become as good as Jim Edmonds of the St. Louis Cardinals.
Edmonds plays center and left field for the Meridian 10-year-old Cal Ripken All-Stars. Meridian won the state title and is now playing in the Ripken Southwest Regional in Lake Village, Ark.
Edmonds says its the coaches who have made the All-Stars as good as they are.
