Meridian suffers loss at regionals

The Meridian 9-year-old All-Stars suffered a 3-1 loss Saturday to Maumell, Arkansas in the 2002 Cal Ripken southwest Regional Baseball Tournament.
Maumelle came out swinging putting up two runs on the board in the first inning. Meridian answered back with one run in the top of the fourth. That would be their only run as Maumelle added one more in the bottom of the fourth to seal up the win.
Meridian's Daniel Knox stood strong on the mound allowing only three hits in five innings in the defensive struggle.
Alex Stegall, Nathan Fincher, and Wes Stokes led Meridian on defense while Stegall, Stokes, and Zach Johnson contributed at the plate.
