Union resident named to community college board

Charlie Denver Brackeen of Union will be one of the four newest members of the Mississippi State Board of Community and Junior Colleges.
Brackeen, a retired major general with the Mississippi Army National Guard, was named to the post last week by Gov. Ronnie Musgrove.
Brackeen's six-year term began July 16. He earned an associate's degree from East Central Community College and earned bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Mississippi.
He served as basketball coach, counselor, director of admissions, academic dean, director of financial aid and dean of students at ECCC. Brackeen also has served in the Mississippi Army National Guard and as special advisor to the governor for military affairs.
