The city of Meridian has a leash law for dogs.
There is no leash law for cats but both cats and dogs need to be registered and vaccinated.
Lauderdale County does not have a leash law. Most of the county's animal regulations deal with unclean yards, or animals with no food or shelter.
County resident can file complaints about annoying dogs at the Lauderdale County animal shelter.
Hot weather can be rough on dogs.
Sosebee recommends facing your dog's house into the prevailing wind for ventilation. He also said doghouses need to be in a shaded areas.
And he said, make sure that the dog has a bowl of water nearby. "Never let that water bowl be empty," he said.
