Organizers say more than 100 residents turned out Friday for the first day of the Soul Steam Feed Works Auction on Fifth Street.
Corbert Hollingsworth, owner of Hollingsworth Enterprises Inc. of Forest, the company directing the auction, said he was pleased with the first day but expects close to 300 bidders today.
Hollingsworth said items on the block today will include vehicles, steam engines, machine shop items, gears and steel tools.
Soul Steam Feed Works was founded in 1893. Thousands of steam feeds were produced and millions of machine parts were manufactured and repaired at the Fifth Street factory.
The factory operated for more than 100 years under the same family name until Bob Soul sold all of the equipment and machinery to Miner Saw of Meridian last September.
Proceeds from the auction will go to Miner Saw who owns all of the equipment and machinery. The auction resumes today at 9 a.m.
