Former high school teammates will battle each other for a berth in the 2002 Bill Davis Memorial Fourth of July Golf Tournament finals this morning at Northwood Country Club.
Jimmy Carle and Judge Little used to play for Meridian High School during their younger days. Today, they'll each try to beat the other to advance to this afternoon's finals.
Carle and Dan Angero held off Buddy Davis and Andy Mayatt for a 1-up win in Saturday's quarterfinals. Little and Doyle Bryan got past Joel Nelson and Jay Bowen 2 and 1 to earn their berth in the semifinal round.
Saturday's other two quarterfinals saw Johnny Lang and Clay Long beat Billy McWilliams and Willie Frazier 3 and 2 and Jack Combest and Steve Nelson defeat J.T. Williamson and Austin Bowen 3 and 2.
Today's semifinals begin at 8:30 a.m. with the finals slated for 1:30 p.m.
Little and Bryan's match with Nelson and Bowen was close as expected.
It didn't take Little long to figure out his team's success so far in the four-ball portion of the tournament.
Tournament notes: Bubba Hampton had a hole-in-one on Thursday during the stroke play qualifying round. Hampton aced the par-3, 146-yard, 13th hole with an 8-iron.
