IN THE SPIRIT – Meridian native Jeff East started playing the trumpet in the summer of 1952 while a student at Marion Park Elementary School. He played "Taps" at the Doughboy Monument downtown when he was in high school on Armistice Day, what is now Veterans Day. He now plays at his Atlanta church, Wieuca Road Baptist Church.
