After seven hours, 27 holes, and all of the daylight exhausted, the 2001 edition of the Bill Davis Memorial/Fourth of July Invitational at Northwood Country Club ended in a two-way tie Sunday. The teams of Kelly Swain-Scott Morgan and Joey Mabry-Scott Tisdale finished the 54 holes of regulation knotted at 199, 14 strokes under par. The two teams swapped stroke for stroke over nine holes of sudden death in a 2 1/2 hour battle that ended only because of darkness.
PEABODY, Mass. A year after losing a final-round lead, Bruce Fleisher won the U.S. Senior Open by a stroke Sunday for his first major title as Jack Nicklaus and other challengers fell off the pace. Fleisher, runner-up to Hale Irwin in the Senior Open last year, parred the final 12 holes for a 2-under 68 and an even-par total of 280. Isao Aoki and Gil Morgan tied for second at 1 over for 72 holes at the 6,709-yard Salem Country Club. Fleisher won once on the PGA Tour and 13 times as a senior, but the closest he got to a major was at the Senior Open last year, when he took a 2-stroke lead into the final round at Saucon Valley in Bethlehem, Pa.

The voice is scratchy and gruff, worn out from barking out instructions to his players. Ever the hands-on coach, leading his squad into battle with a keen eye and an understanding for the game of soccer. Mike Sullivan is doing this summer the same thing he has done for the past two years. The difference is that this year, he's the top guy at Meridian High School. "I think it's a better opportunity for me and I'm thrilled and excited to be coaching at Meridian," Sullivan stated after being named the new boys' soccer head coach. "There's a lot to look forward to and I'm fortunate to be working with one of the top programs in the state."

PORTLAND, Ore. No development on the planet could be less of a surprise than this one: The Dream Team has qualified for the Olympic Games. Even though they were without three players because of injury and were playing for the fourth time in as many days, the United States squad romped over Argentina 128-87 on Wednesday night. "We were a little short-handed so we were concerned about the guard situation but as it turned out it was not a problem," coach Chuck Daly said.
