JACKSON Retired Air Force Col. Sam Forbert Jr. of Meridian was one of three appointees to the Veterans Home Purchase Board announced Friday by Gov. Ronnie Musgrove.
Forbert was joined by Jesse B. Davis of Oxford and Sam Provenza of Greenville for four-year terms beginning July 1 and ending June 30, 2006. The board meets monthly to review various factors involved in veterans home loan applications and programs.
Musgrove said the appointees "have a strong commitment to meeting the needs of the veterans, a commitment that will be reflected in their work on the board."
Forbert served as a full-time employee with the Air National Guard for the Mississippi Military Department at Key Field for 28 years. He retired as a colonel in the U.S. Air Force and brigadier general with the Mississippi Air National Guard. He and his wife, Aline, have three children, Steve, Charles and Lisa. Forbert is the current president of the Kiwanis Club of Meridian and also active in a number of other civic organizations. He is a life long member of First Baptist Church in Meridian.
Davis retired from the military in 1973 after 20 years in the Navy's submarine service. A licensed real estate agent, he owns RE/MAX First Choice Realty in Oxford. He is a Rotarian and a past president of the Oxford Chamber of Commerce.
Provenza, a veteran of the Air Corps and long time member of the Greenville Kiwanis Club, currently serves as chairman of the Convention and Visitors Bureau and is vice chairman of the Council on Economic Development.
