Bully, the mascot for the Mississippi State University Bulldogs, and new football coordinator Rockey Felker will be on hand to meet fans and guests of Mississippi State next Tuesday night.
The Lauderdale County Chapter of the MSU Alumni Association is hosting the event which is called a Bulldog Family Celebration. It will be held on the campus of Mississippi State-Meridian at the Kahlmus Auditorium.
A social will be held at 6:30 p.m. A dinner and the program featuring Felker and more of the football staff at Mississippi State will follow at 7.
Public Relations and Marketing Director Linda Butler of MSU-Meridian says the Lauderdale Chapter wants the evening to be an exciting family affair.
Bully will be joined by a current Bulldog cheerleader.
Last year, head football coach Jackie Sherrill was the featured speaker for the event which is a alumni kickoff toward the fall season.
Felker was a star quarterback for Mississippi State in the 1970s and later became the head football coach for five seasons beginning in 1986. He has most recently served as the offensive coordinator at Tulsa University (1991-92 and 1997-99). Before that he spent four seasons at the University of Arkansas.
Felker came back to Starkville this off-season to rejoin the State family. He has been given the job of coordinator of football operations.
Some 350 people attended last year's meeting.
Butler said the Lauderdale Chapter is also stressing that tickets be bought in advance.
Tickets will also be available at the door. Tickets are $10 apiece but children under 10 will eat free. They can be purchased at the Information Desk at MSU-Meridian or by Lauderdale Chapter president Marcus Irby at 644-3697.
Butler also mentioned that Central Mississippi Bulldog Extravaganza will be held at the Mississippi Coliseum in Jackson on July 18. Nearly 2,000 State fans attended the event last year.
