David Ray won in straight sets over Michael Ward to win the gold medal in the Boys 18-year-old singles competition in the State Games of Mississippi tennis event at the Northeast Tennis Complex on Sunday.
The other matches in the tennis competition were canceled because of rain. The matches were started early in the morning and delayed twice. After drying the court twice, the rains once again fell and because many of the competitors were from out-of-town, the rest of the event was canceled.
Ray won the his completed match 6-0, 6-1 over Ward to pick up the gold before the rains.
This was not the first time for Ray to compete in tennis. He also competed in the first youth tennis competition. This was his first time to compete since then.
Soon after the boys 18-year-old match was finished, the rains poured down, bringing a halt to the event.
