Billy Burnham to leave MHS for principal's job at Clarkdale

Billy Burnham, Meridian High School's assistant principal and athletics director, said he will submit his resignation to the Meridian Public School District on Monday.
The Lauderdale County School Board approved hiring Burnham as principal of the high school at Clarkdale Attendance Center during a regularly scheduled meeting Thursday.
Burnham said the Meridian school district was aware that he was seeking the Clarkdale position.
Dr. Janet McLin, superintendent of Meridian Public Schools, said this week that there is a possibility the district will not replace the athletic director's position for next school year.
Burnham has worked in the Meridian school district for 19 years as a teacher and a coach. He became MHS's athletics director in February 2001 after Mac Barnes retired from the position.
