The State Games of Mississippi arrived over the weekend with bowling action taking place Thursday, Saturday and Sunday. Thanks to all who participated. I hope to have the complete winners list for you next week.
With both the Mississippi State Bowling Tournament and the State Games behind us, a busy summer continues next week when the YABA State Bowling Tournament comes to town for three weekends beginning June 29. Confirmation sheets on when your child will bowl should be arriving soon. Parents, please be sure to have your child at the lanes at least thirty minutes prior to shift time. If your child would like to participate and has not yet signed up to bowl, you may contact Leon Fike or Candace Blackmon. They will be glad to try to find a spot for your child to bowl. In addition to the bowling activities, the local YABA will be hosting a pool side party each Saturday during the tournament at the Days Inn. Local youth bowlers and their parents are invited to attend and greet those who are visiting Meridian. The party will take place from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. each Saturday. Also, during the tournament Hamasa Temple will be operating a concession stand outside Dixie Bowl with hamburgers, hot dogs and pizza. A portion of the proceeds will be donated back to our youth bowlers.
The First Annual Meridian Bowling Camp is scheduled to be held July 22-26 at Dixie Bowl. This camp is open to both kids and adults. Participants will be instructed in basics of bowling by some of our top area bowlers. The cost is only $45 per person. There will be a special drawing for those who attend on Friday, July 26. For more information or to register contact Dixie Bowl at 483-2283 or Betty Dorough at 482-2220.
Stan's Classic Tournaments will be conducting a handicap Doubles Tournament with 1st place guaranteed $3000 at Dixie Bowl beginning August 3-4 and running each weekend through September 2. The entry fee is $60 per team ($30 per bowler). Multiple participation is allowed with additional partners during the same shift at $25 per bowler. Optional events will include high game pots and brackets. Entry forms are available at Dixie Bowl or you may register online at www.bowling100.com.
