Services for James D. Griffin will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Blackwater Baptist Church with the Revs. Dockey Honeycutt and Curtis Dyer officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with Barham Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Griffin, 80, of Blackwater in Kemper County, died Monday, June 17, 2002, in his home. He was retired from Cobb Brother's Construction Co., a member of Blackwater Baptist Church and served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Freda Hopper Griffin of the Blackwater Community; two sons, James D. "Jim" Griffin Jr. and William F. Griffin and his wife, Melanie, all of Blackwater; two grandchildren, William Tyler Griffin and Matt Ryan Griffin; a sister, Edna Davidson, of Montgomery, Ala.; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to Blackwater Baptist Church.
Visitation is today from 5 p.m.-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
VALERIE MARIE MORSE SIMS
STARKVILLE Services for Valerie Marie Morse Sims will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Starkville Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ron McDougald officiating. Burial will be in Lone Oak Cemetery in Steens.
Mrs. Sims, 22, of Starkville and Columbus, died Sunday, June 16, 2002, in her home. Valerie was a precious person with a beautiful smile and she brought a ray of sunshine into everyone's life that was fortunate enough to know her. When she knew her time was near she was an inspiration to us all with her courage, determination and the love she showed us throughout her final days.
We are all comforted to know that her days of suffering are over, but are heartbroken to let her go.
Survivors include her husband of five weeks, Alex Ryan Sims of Columbus; her parents, Joe and Pat Josey Morse, her sister and Mandy Michelle Morse, all of Starkville; cousins, Marty and Tiffany Morse Miller and Samantha Miller, all of Dallas; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Roy and Doris Taggert Sims; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Clint and Lunelle Sims, and a nephew, Dalton Sims, all of Columbus; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Stan and Heather Lang and nieces Shelby and Jackie Lang, all of Crystal Springs; several aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, R.E. and Louise Fulgham Josey, and paternal grandparents, Julian and Mary Hazelwood Morse.

DEKALB Services for Ruby "Lena Mae" Craig will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Greenfield Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Linburg Wess officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Talle Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery with E.E. McDonald Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Craig, 47, of Philadelphia, died Saturday, June 15, 2002, at Rush Foundation Hospital.
Survivors include her husband, Frank Craig of Philadelphia; a daughter, CaTina Porter, and her husband, Clifton, one granddaughter, her father, Lloyd Burnside, all of Philadelphia; four sisters, Bonnie Holloway and her husband, Larry, of Meridian, Rebecca Yarbrough and her husband, James, Jeanette Clemons, and her husband, Keith and Kathy Burnside, all of Philadelphia; three brothers, Arnold Burnside, Willie Burnside, E. L. Burnside, all of Philadelphia; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by one child and two siblings.
Visitation will be Wednesday from noon – 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

YORK Graveside services for Jean O'Flinn Smith will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Clay Memorial Cemetery in Cuba, Ala., with the Rev. Donnie Minor officiating. Bumpers Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Smith, 86, of McKenzie, Tenn., died Sunday, June 16, 2002, at Methodist Hospital in McKenzie.
Survivors include her daughter, Susan S. Holcomb, of McKenzie; her sons, Thomas A. Smith and Carlton Smith, both of Clanton, Ala.; brothers, Charles R. O'Flinn of Rockford, Conn., and George A. O'Flinn of Cottondale, Ala.; 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

QUITMAN Services for Eunice Mable Curtis were held Monday at Wright's Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ervin Mooney officiating. Burial will be in the Odd Fellows Cemetery in Quitman.
Mrs. Curtis, 85, of Quitman, died Thursday, June 13, 2002, at H.C. Watkins Memorial Hospital.
Survivors include her sister, Evie Harris of Quitman; several step-children, nieces, nephews and grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
