Andy and Eric Armstrong took time from their cross-country European bike trip on Saturday for a look around Kleve, Germany.
The trip came after Eric, Andy's grandson, slept late.
Andy, Eric and Ken Norman visited an area the ancient Romans once occupied. Norman has relatives in Newton, but lives in Germany; Andy and Eric stayed with Norman's family in Kleve.
Andy admitted that standing on the chessboard among the chess pieces was odd. But he gave Ken a scare before Ken checkmated him.
One of the best things about traveling is meeting new people and making new friends.
