Rural electric association gets $31.3 million

WASHINGTON Federal funding totaling more than $31.3 million has been approved for use by the Southern Pine Electric Association in 16 Mississippi counties, U.S. Sen. Trent Lott and U.S. Rep. Chip Pickering said Thursday.
The funding will enable the association to serve almost 8,000 new customers in the region, construct 435 miles of new distribution lines and to make other improvements.
Specifically, the funds will help serve 7,950 new users. The loan will be administered by the United States Department of Agriculture, Office of Rural Development.
The power association operates in the following counties: Clarke, Copiah, Covington, Forrest, Jasper, Jefferson Davis, Jones, Lamar, Lawrence, Leake, Lincoln, Newton, Rankin, Scott, Simpson and Smith.
