Biathlon opens State Games

Only a few competed, but a lot took home gold at the 2002 Summer Biathlon at Camp Binachi as a part of the unofficial opening day of the 2002 State Games of Mississippi.
A father-son combination captured gold medals to give the event a little family flavor. Wayne Snow won the gold medal in the 40-49 open class with a time of 23.07 which was the fastest time of all of the athletes to compete. His son, Tim Snow, won the gold medal in the junior open class with a time of 26.29.
The 30-39 law enforcement class had three medal winners in the event. Toby Graves of Collins won the gold medal in the 30-39 division with a time of 28.00. Ferell Thomas took the silver medal with a time of 32.49 and Douglas Williams came in with a bronze medal with an overall time of 32.52.
Reinke finished the day with a time of 32.42 and Calvert won the first place with a finishing time of 32.43. Calvert, 66, was the oldest athlete among all of the competitors Ivan Adams of Tennessee won the gold medal in the military group with a winning time of 29.28 to end the day of competition.
