Ann Myers named publisher of The Newton Record

NEWTON A new publisher has been named for The Newton Record, the first such appointment in 26 years.
Myers has Mississippi roots. She attended Carthage High School and is a graduate of Columbia College in Chicago. Members of her family live in Carthage, Morton, Philadelphia and the Jackson area.
Myers has more than 20 years of experience in publishing.
Myers said she and the other team members at The Newton Record will be working on updating equipment and converting The Record to electronic transfer for printing.
She plans to move to Newton and become active in the community, the Newspaper in Education program, senior programs, community events, churches and sports.
The new publisher has an adult daughter, Cynthia Janeen Goodnight, who lives in Danielson, Conn.
J.E. Strange, publisher of The Newton Record for the past 26 years, will remain with the paper in a very active role in the advertising department, she said.
Myers will be the seventh editor/publisher at The Newton Record since the newspaper was established by C.E. Cunningham in 1901.
In addition to The Newton Record and The Meridian Star, cnhi's East Mississippi Group also includes the Laurel Leader-Call and and The Wayne County News in Waynesboro.
